While yesterday was a bit of an overload with full day of classes from start to finish (gah) It was totally worth it to have just one class today. All the 4th-6th Graders had to take standardized tests today. (국가수준 교과학습 진단평가) Doesn't mean I rested on my laurels. The day was spent prepping for the 6th and 3rd Graders the rest of the week. I remember having standardized tests in Middle/High School but I never remember studying for them... Not the case here. Everywhere I turned this morning I saw kids studying their textbooks.
^6th Graders studying...
The other difference is that there is no scantron sheet for the answers. The students write the answer directly on the test papers which the teachers grade by hand. I saw the 4th grade teachers grading and its ridiculous. They are machines. The test papers were printed on booklets that were bigger than A4 (8.5x11). Something different.
Yesterday's teachers club had the turnout that I anticipated. Last week there were 8 teachers 2 of whom (BJY and LSJ) are very advanced in their speaking skills. They just need practice. However I think it scared away the rest of the crew... As I saw yesterday. But we talked about stress and were making a mind map... The expected causes of stress were said: wife/husbands, co-workers, school, students etc. After a while BJY exclaimed, "ENGLISH!". Everyone had a good chuckle. I'm surprised it wasn't the first thing that was said.
