목포 주말 여행(Mokpo Weekend Trip) Day 1

Mokpo (목포) is a fishing town located in the South end of Korea.

We decided to take a bus on the way down... from Bucheon Bus Terminal (부천버스터민널) the bus fare was ~21,000 Won

Road trip snacks are a bit different... Exhibit A: Crabmeat! Yummy.  

At the rest stop we bought some potatoes (w/ salt and sugar on the side) and Walnut cakes.  

The first thing I noticed in Mokpo were the crazy amounts of dried fish EVERYWHERE. 

Not a 100% of the entire drying process, but they do 'unfold' the fish so that the insides also dry. 

This is,아구찜.  아구 (Monkfish)... its a pretty ugly fish..  Check it out here...

And the texture is not like other fish, flaky and moist... it was slightly tougher and somewhat chewy but not like squid chewy.  It was put on top of a HUGE pile of bean sprouts.   

Mokpo Ferry Terminal Interior... its NICE...and shiny/clean/new.  We took a passenger ferry around a few of the islands... Ticket was 9,000won RT.

Sort of sad that this bridge is being constructed.  Its going to stick out like a sore thumb 

along the pristine view.

(Did I mention how perfect the weather was this weekend??)

The interior of the ferry doesn't have chairs but an 온돌 (ondol-heated floor).  

I had to provide my name and cell number on the other side of the ticket that was torn off.

For emergency purposes I suppose... 

갓바위 (Gotbawi) 갓- name of traditional Korean cylindrical hat and 비위-rock/boulder 

Accomodations....Sleeping on the floor- all Korean style, no beds here and can't beat the price at 15,000won/night!

The main dish, 낙지 (Octopus)... I also ate, 홍어 (Skate) and the SMELL was to put it bluntly AWFUL.

I'm not real picky with food but that was just too much for me. Ate one bite and I was done.
