The Girls Middle School is adjacent to the boys middle school. The two schools were constructed so there is no chance of the girls mixing with the boys... a brick wall surrounds each school and there just 1 entrance for each school.
1/6/09 Day 1 - Took Christina's advice, and prepared Movie charades. However, it did not go as planned. Class 3 guessed the movie titles SO FAST. So it was a bust. Preparing different lessons for the first day is a must because you don't know the level or how receptive they will be to the material. (Live and Learn) I can't remember how i salvaged the class but I managed to somehow... Ate lunch with a Canadian teacher to an all you can eat sushi place. It was ok... We exchanged phone numbers but we'll see if i ever call her. She's from northern Ontario and very much the outdoors person. She raises and sells horses back home.
1/7/09 Day 2 - Preparing a topic for today was much easier. I selected an article about a 78 year old lady winning the lottery and had a discussion asking "what would you do if you won the lottery". This went MUCH better. Class 2 (middle school teachers) was at the highest level of the 3 classes that I taught. Everyone interacted and spoke very well. Without thinking I used the word "corny"... when asked for the definition I drew a blank. Use, Urbandictionary.com for all things slang. Then went out to lunch with 2 of the Korean teachers from class 3. The guy teacher apparently was a former elementary student of Christina's!! We ate at a restaurant called Sorrento (just like the cheese). Sorry my batteries went dead but the interior was very pastel... Imagine the color scheme for a girls room in Ikea.

LOL, I catch myself using words like 'corny' and then getting asked about what it means. Someone asked me what does 'oh my gosh' mean. I really had to think about why i say that instead of 'oh my god' I said it means the same but in a p.c. way not to offend any religious folks.
Haha. Korean people who come to the USA, often ask what "corny" means within the first couple weeks of trying to navigate the way we use English here. My dad uses the phrase too, but it took him a while before he figured out how to use it appropriately.
That sounds like fun though. What do you have planned for the break? I want to know what to expect. :)
That will probably make a good blog topic... But I'm not teaching too much during winter break. Just that one teachers camp and then there's 1 at our school in February.
